Enter your last basic salary (not gross pay — allowances do not count) and your service. The formula is Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 51.

How to read your figure
Start with the basic line on your last payslip, not the total at the bottom. That one choice changes almost every wrong result we see. Housing and transport money stays out, even if it makes up half your package.
Take a basic salary of AED 12,000 and six years of service. The daily rate is AED 400. Five years at 21 days gives 105 days, or AED 42,000. Year six adds 30 days, or AED 12,000. The total is AED 54,000, and it is still well below the two-year cap of AED 288,000.
Common questions
What if I left before one year? No gratuity is due, but unpaid wages and leave pay still are.
Do unpaid days lower the total? Yes, unpaid absence days come off the service period. Paid annual leave and paid sick leave do not.
Does resigning cut the amount? No, not under the current law, once you have passed one year.

How the formula works
Daily wage = last monthly basic wage ÷ 30. Housing, transport and other allowances are excluded — this is the single most common mistake, and it changes the answer by thousands of dirhams.
- Less than 1 year: no gratuity is due.
- Years 1–5: 21 days of basic wage per year (pro-rata for part years).
- Year 6 onwards: 30 days of basic wage per year.
- Cap: the total cannot exceed 24 months of basic wage — which, on this formula, only binds after 25.5 years of service.
- Deadline: all end-of-service entitlements must be paid within 14 days of the contract ending (Article 53).
- Resignation or termination: the same formula applies under the current law. The old limited/unlimited reduction no longer applies.
Note on ÷ 30: Article 51 does not spell out a daily-rate divisor. Dividing by 30 is the widely used working convention; confirm it against your employer's payroll if your settlement uses a different divisor.

Frequently asked questions
Is gratuity calculated on basic or gross salary?
Basic salary only. Allowances for housing, transport, utilities and similar items are excluded.
Do I get gratuity if I resign?
Yes, provided you have completed at least one year of continuous service. Under the current law, resignation and termination use the same formula.
What if I worked less than one year?
No gratuity is due, but you are still owed unpaid wages and any accrued leave pay.
What is the maximum gratuity?
Two years' basic wage (24 months). On the standard formula that cap is reached at 25.5 years of service.
When must my employer pay?
Within 14 days of the contract ending, together with your other end-of-service entitlements (Article 53).
Do unpaid leave days count?
No — days of unpaid absence are excluded from the service period. Paid annual and sick leave count as service.
Can my employer deduct from my gratuity?
Only amounts you lawfully owe — such as loans or advances — or amounts ordered by law or a court. Arbitrary deductions are not permitted.
Does DIFC use the same formula?
No. DIFC employers contribute to DEWS, a funded savings plan, instead of paying lump-sum gratuity. Use the DEWS estimator.
What about domestic workers?
They are covered separately (Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022): 14 days per year, capped at six months' pay. Use the domestic-worker calculator.
What if my employer refuses to pay?
Send a written demand first (see the letter generator), keep the proof, then file a complaint with MOHRE. The MOHRE Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre is on 80084.
Is this the official MOHRE calculator?
No. This is an independent estimator aligned with the law as published. For an official record, ask HR for a written settlement statement or contact MOHRE directly.
Is my salary data stored?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our server.
